What Is Aquaponics?

By definition, aquaponics is a system of aquaculture in which the waste produced by farmed fish or other aquatic animals supplies nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water in which they grow. Essentially what this means is that the plants are able to derive all of the nutrients they require for growth and survival from the waste of the fish, and the water is at all times kept habitable for the fish due to filtering from the plant roots. As such, the only major inputs into one of our aquaponic systems are the fish food and water, making it completely organic, as no fertilizers, pesticides, or growth hormones are necessary.

Furthermore, due to the high amounts of nutrients they are able to pull from the system, aquaponic plants grow more quickly and healthily than most traditionally farmed produce, creating an incredibly robust system that can withstand rapid scalability and a high turnover of plants. More specifically, our aquaponically grown herbs are able to grow to maturity from seed in as little as 30 days, allowing us to harvest daily and deliver our produce within hours of harvest. Best of all, we are able to produce a consistently high quality product year round regardless of seasons.
