AUSTIN — The Texas Department of Fisheries and Wildlife has approved a new canned fish recipe for Derek Fisher, the actor-turned-food-and-drink consultant who created his own version of fried shrimp and fried pork chops at his restaurant in Austin’s Denton neighborhood.
The department also approved the fish to be sold at the new restaurant, “Baked Fish” at 462 N. Austin Ave., in the Denton Business Improvement District.
The restaurant is now open for business, according to a department spokeswoman.
The recipe includes fried pork chop, shrimp and crispy fried chicken, as well as fried corn on the cob.
The fish is priced at $8.99 for a 12-ounce, $11.99 pot, $14.99 with two sides and $17.99 to be served with two entrees, according the DFW.
The seafood is available on Sundays and holidays, according DFW spokeswoman Melissa Pecce.
Derek Fisher is a longtime Austin native and Austin native, having lived in the city for almost 30 years.
He has a daughter, Hannah, and son, Jacob.
The restaurants “Baking Fish” and “Biscuits and Gravy” are available on Saturdays from 6-8 p.m. at the Austin Marriott, 602 S. Main St., and on Sundays from 6:30-9 p.l.m., at the Grand Hyatt Regency, 1101 W. Main Ave., and at the Downtown Austin Hotel, 701 W. Lamar St. The dishes are sold in the Austin Market, which is open seven days a week from noon to 5 p.
